Cool Capital was invited to exhibit the 2014 and 2016 Cool Capital catalogues at the Take Festival for Independent Art and Fashion Magazines in Vienna, Austria – an entirely alternative international exhibition with the focus of returning to print media.

The exhibition took place from the 26th – 29th of April 2017 in the historical reading room of Vienna’ s former central postal office in the heart of Vienna. The venue set a backdrop that was as unique as all the selectively curated magazines on display.

Elke Gaugele and Monica Titton reacted to the overdose of digital media, visual noise and the homogeneity of publications by curating an exhibition focusing on the return to print media and celebrating independent design, art and fashion magazines.

Cool Capital formed part of the “Shifting Geographies” narrative (one of five themes of the overall exhibition) which describes independent initiatives as an integral part of the creation process forcing a shift from the conventional.

Curator, Monica Titton said the following “We are glad that the exhibition introduced Cool Capital and your creative endeavours to a new Viennese audience and we are sure that you will have new readers here in Austria!”

Convenor, Pieter Mathews commented that it was an honour and a privilege to form part of this prestigious and unusual exhibition. This invitation reinforces not only the quality of creativity of the contributors, citizens and artists of Pretoria but has also provided them with another world platform following on from the 2016 Venice Biennale.
