Help that works

Terugploeg (‘plough back’) is a food distribution and community upliftment initiative run by Atterbury Trust in collaboration with a network of benefactors and volunteers in the agricultural sector. Terugploeg has been responsibly uplifting destitute Afrikaans communities since 2020 through food distribution, in-service training and job creation. With the input and donations of generous farmers, tonnes of fresh fruit, vegetables and game meat were initially donated and then responsibly distributed to destitute Afrikaans communities. With the establishment of a facility outside Pretoria, the first step has been taken to develop a sustainable process over the long term, whereby food can be distributed effectively and communities can be uplifted.

Get involved

With the support of donors, we give back to our immediate community by responsibly distributing resources to identified institutions and communities. Terugploeg collects fresh produce such as vegetables, fruit and meat from farmers and other donors, which is then processed, stored and distributed to nursing homes, children’s homes and schools in need.

We invite you to get involved by donating fresh produce, nonperishable products, game or livestock carcasses, equipment, household items or a financial contribution.

Where is Terugploeg?

Terugploeg is located on an eight-hectare site outside Pretoria, near the Rayton off-ramp on the N4 highway. This site was made available by Faan and Dirk van der Walt (the founders of WeBuyCars). The facility includes a food-processing plant, cold room and vegetable garden.
