Versnit
Versnit is an annual Afrikaans music and wine evening held at the picturesque Rust en Vrede Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. Founded in 2012 by close friends Jean Engelbrecht of Rust en Vrede and Louis van der Watt of the Atterbury Trust, the event takes its name from the Afrikaans word for a wine blend. Over the years, however, Versnit has come to represent something far greater: a celebration of generosity, community and giving back.
Each January, guests gather on the estate’s sprawling lawns as the sun sets over the vineyards to enjoy an unforgettable evening of exceptional music, award-winning South African wines and meaningful fellowship. More than a celebration of Afrikaans culture, Versnit is an opportunity to invest in its future, with all proceeds supporting the Atterbury Trust’s work in funding tertiary study bursaries for talented Afrikaans students who would otherwise not have the means to pursue higher education, while also advancing a range of cultural initiatives.
Every year, Versnit presents a carefully curated line-up of some of South Africa’s most celebrated artists. Previous performers include Karen Zoid, Elvis Blue, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, PJ Powers and Deon Meyer, among many others. The evening also includes the presentation of the prestigious Versnit Award, honouring an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to Afrikaans language and culture.
Proudly sponsored by Lexus and Toyota South Africa, every cent raised through Versnit goes directly towards the Atterbury Trust’s mission of creating opportunities for students and preserving the rich heritage of Afrikaans culture.
