Atterbury Foundation NPC

Atterbury Foundation NPC was established in 2007 as a Level 1 B-BBEE certified nonprofit organisation in tandem with Atterbury Trust. This entity focuses on social transformation in partnership with previously disadvantaged communities to create training opportunities and initiate community upliftment projects. All contributions to the Atterbury Foundation NPC qualify for B-BBEE scorecard purposes.

Uplift projects were initially planned in conjunction with Atterbury’s property developments, allowing resources used for major projects to play a meaningful role in the immediate area.

Successful initiatives include the award-winning Bergrivier Skills Training Project, the Alkantrant and Soshanguve libraries as well as the Re-Connect Children’s Home, which was completed as part of the Lynnwood Bridge development, the Geelhout Estate alien-tree removal project outside George as well as job-creation projects in Johannesburg’s inner city in collaboration with Newtown Junction.

Since 2018, the focus has shifted to education. Like the Atterbury Trust, the Atterbury Foundation NPC invests in education and the maximisation of potential through the awarding of study bursary loans, support for schools, facilitating access to employment opportunities and skills development. Currently, 24 university students are supported as well as a number of nursery schools. The Karoo Suite project, undertaken in collaboration with Coenie de Villiers and Deon Meyer, has enabled dozens of students from the Karoo to seize the opportunity for tertiary studies.

The StartWell stunting nutrition project is also run from the Atterbury Foundation NPC. With the support of WeBuyCars, Outsurance and a few other donors, 2 647 toddlers at 63 early development centres across South Africa receive a daily meal containing all the essential nutrients, as prescribed by the World Health Organisation. Notable results in combating stunting have already been observed over the past year.
